Implants

When indicated, missing teeth should usually be replaced to help regain your ability to chew, prevent other teeth from shifting along with bite collapse, and restore your smile. There are three main types of artificial teeth; dental implants, fixed bridge work and partial or complete dentures. Each one is designed for a particular situation:

Dental Implant

A dental implant is made by surgically inserting one or more small metal posts beneath the gum into the jawbone. In a few months, when the implants are fused to the surrounding bone, the artificial tooth or teeth are then attached and the missing tooth or teeth are restored.

Dr. Rob Bamford has been surgically placing and restoring dental implants since 1995.

Dr. Bamford can examine your dental situation carefully to determine if you meet the requirements for dental implant treatment.  It is important that your oral cavity and bone are healthy and free from disease or inflammation.  In some cases, treatment may be required before implant surgery can be initiated.

Dental implants require adequate and healthy bone.  In some cases, especially if the teeth have been missing for several years, the jaw bone may have atrophied to the point that dental implants may not be possible without some type of bone grafting or regeneration.

Dental implants are typically placed in our office with the use of local anaesthetic.

In some cases, a temporary tooth may be placed on the dental implant at the same time as the initial surgery.  Most often a healing period of about 3 months is required for the bone to firmly form a bond to the implant surface.  This is known as osseointegration.

The final restoration can be a single crown, bridge, custom bar to retain a denture,  or and entire fixed arch of teeth.

Restoring a dentition with dental implants can vary from a simple single tooth implant to complex situations replacing several or all of your teeth.
